If you miss your An Post delivery, your courier will leave a ‘sorry we missed you’ notice at your property.

There are a few options you can take to retrieve your parcel:

  • Take your ‘sorry we missed you’ card to your local Delivery Service Unit where you can collect your item. You’ll need to bring your driving licence, or another form of personal identification.
  • You can nominate someone else to collect your parcel from the Delivery Service Unit by signing the bottom of the ‘sorry we missed you’ card. The person who picks up the parcel must bring identification with them.
  • You can arrange for a redelivery of your item online by following instructions on the card. Your parcel can take around 3-5 days to be redelivered.

If you know you won’t be in to accept your delivery, it may be possible to reschedule it using your tracking number. Alternatively, you may be able to specify a safe space for your courier to leave your parcel.

How Long Will An Post Hold a Package?

An Post will always make at least one delivery attempt. If you’re not in, your parcel will be returned to your local Delivery Service Unit and held for the following time periods:

Standard and Express Post: 5 working days

Registered Post: 3 working days

Parcels received from abroad: 16 working days

After this time, they will return your parcel to the sender if possible.
