Spanish Tax ID Number

Sometimes, Spanish authorities ask for additional information from the recipient and it’s quite common for couriers to ask for the recipient's Tax ID before delivering their parcel. This could be if the item is over €150 in value or needs additional checks at customs.

It’s a good idea to let your recipient know that you may need their ID to send your parcel to them. This means they won’t be surprised by any ID requests further down the line and you’ll reduce the chance of their parcel being held up at customs.

Spanish Customs - Regulations and VAT

Since July 1st 2021, sending a parcel to Spain from the UK has a few more steps, but don’t worry, Parcel2Go are experts at international shipping.

Your shipment to Spain will be subject to EU VAT unless it is a gift up to the value of £38*/€45. It’s important to know that the value includes the cost of shipping. So if you send a book that costs £12 and shipping costs £10.50, the total value is £22.50, which means you won't have to pay any EU VAT on your parcel delivery to Spain.

If your shipment to Spain is subject to EU VAT, the rate you’ll have to pay is around 21%. You’ll usually have to pay this if you’re either:

  • sending a parcel worth more than €45

  • sending directly from a marketplace such as Amazon or Ebay

  • a business sender, shipping for commercial reasons

If you’re a business sender, take a look at your options for shipping to Spain and find more helpful information on Spanish Customs and VAT for businesses. And don’t forget our customer service team work 24/7 and are always happy to help!
